Groundworks Industries is home to a family of retail brands that seek to provide knowledgeable, and artful experiences and set new standards for the purchase and experience of cannabis. We are looking for folks who are passionate about cannabis education and want to help us move the dial forward on building an inclusive and professional cannabis culture.

To be successful in this role, you'll want to bring a wealth of customer experience to the table and either a passion for or genuine curiosity about cannabis. You would manage a team of 4-8 Sales Associates and have an Assistant Manager and Intake Specialist on your team. With the support of our back-office GW Services team, Store Managers are empowered to train and develop their staff and drive performance for their store.

Our stores span from the Oregon Coast to as far east as Gresham. We are currently soliciting applicants for Store Manager roles in the Alberta District.


Store Manager Job Description

The Store Manager is accountable for overseeing the daily operations of a cannabis retail dispensary while cultivating a strong group of professionals through training, mentoring, and development. The Store Manager is responsible for driving sales while maintaining a high level of service in a distinctive environment.


Informed by a 'Balanced Scorecard' approach equally emphasizing People, Process/Technology, Customer, and Finance the Store Manager serves as a business unit owner, overseeing the performance of their location and supporting their team in delivering exemplary customer service experiences to all customers.


This is accomplished by way of a respectful, constructive, and energetic style guided by Groundworks' core values and long-range objectives.


Essential Functions

  • Plans, directs, trains, implements, and manages store staff through effective communication of company goals, procedures, and policies
  • Conducts effective and timely performance appraisals
  • Ensures training for all employees is completed effectively and in a timely manner

  • Fosters strong communication with Retail Management Team through closing reports, weekly store reports, and regular correspondence

  • Holds team members accountable for all procedures and policies in a timely and effective manner
  • Recommends employment and performance management concerns to District Manager in a timely and effective manner

  • Actively works to create cultural buy-in amongst their team, and champion organizational goals and initiatives



  • Maintains data relating to OLCC handler cards for staff
  • Efficiently creates schedules with an optimal labor mindset, posting schedules at least two weeks in advance, and ensuring employees have regular visibility of the Store Manager's schedule
  • Maintains employee timecards, approves timecard changes and PTO/Sick requests multiple times weekly, at regular intervals
  • Reports customer and employee injuries and property damage, using the appropriate forms, within 24 hours of the incident
  • Maintains a customer ready sales floor, within the posted hours of operation, at all times
  • Communicates clearly, concisely, and accurately in order to ensure effective store operations
  • Filters communicate to the leadership team in a timely and effective manner
  • Ensures compliance with security, inventory, and regulatory protocols unique to the cannabis industry including but not limited to securing safes, tills, products, and cash at all times
  • Understands and fully utilizes company controls relating to reporting, approvals, and inventory
  • Implements company programs by working directly with the store's team to execute action plans that meet operational and organizational objectives
  • Always keeps store clean and organized
  • Coordinates repairs, facility improvements, and maintenance with third party contractors and Groundworks staff
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the company
  • Attends and contributes to weekly company conference calls and business meetings



  • Engages with the local community through active networking to promote the store and brand
  • Regularly monitors reviews and customer feedback, giving timely feedback and praise to team members when appropriate
  • Models a customer comes first attitude, delivers exceptional customer service, and supervises team members to ensure that they are delivering exceptional customer service
  • Motivates self and team to curate individual customer experiences with a focus on building sales and meeting sales goals
  • Cultivates a team environment that consistently delivers exceptional customer service and distinctive customer experiences that meet the highest standard of customer service



  • Regularly reports sales, inventory, and any additional reports, as requested, to Retail Management Team
  • Accounts for and is responsible for the store's financial goals
  • Oversees and maintains compliance regarding cash control, inventory management, documentation requirements, and audit procedures
  • Trains and develops store team to maximize store financial results
  • Properly maintains cash logs, till counts, and safe counts. Communicates discrepancies in cash to District Manager
  • Monitors sales transactions, discount usage and ensures proper sales reconciliation on a daily basis

Supervisory Responsibility

  • The Store Manager supervises, coaches, teaches, and mentors Assistant Store Managers, Intake Specialists, Lead Sales Associates, and Sales Associates in any store they are working, whether they are the Manager on Duty or not, and whether they are the Store Manager's direct reports or not


Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and lead a team of five or more
  • Demonstrated ability to impact the financial side of a business with a clear understanding of profit and loss as well as labor impact
  • Maintains open availability including nighttime, daytime, weekends, and holidays
  • In-depth experience in performance management, hiring, and training
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Solid and efficient problem-solving skills
  • Excels in financial and business analysis
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback in an efficient, meaningful, and timely manner
  • Ability to teach others processes and ensure team members understand the implications of decisions

  • Hold a valid Marijuana Handlers Permit and Metrc Certification
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal and company regulations required for working in the retail cannabis space
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Have an interest in the cannabis industry and be culturally aligned with Groundworks' mission


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with BioTrack, Flowhub METRC, and web-based sales applications


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit and kneel daily in retail and production environments that include concrete or other hard-surface floors and, in some instances, staircases
  • Ability to push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds multiple times daily
  • Ability to maintain focus and memory in environments with distractions such as heavy foot traffic, background noise due to public conversations and the gathering of people, etc.
  • Absent conditions that would prevent the occasional use of PPE such as safety glasses, dust masks, etc.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work at a computer for several contiguous hours
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle for several hours continuously
