We are actively recruiting a Retail Merchandise Planner to join our merchant team.

The Retail Merchandise Planner supports demand planning, forecasting, budgeting, and analysis as a key member of the merchant team.

Informed by a 'Balanced Scorecard' approach - equally emphasizing People, Process/Technology, Customer, and Finance - the Assistant Merchandise Planner supports replenishment ordering for the organization's retail location and is a key juncture from the buying team to the vertical product teams.

This is accomplished by way of a respectful, constructive, and energetic style guided by Groundworks' core values and long-range objectives.

  • Build and leverage cross-functional relationships both internally and externally while championing data-driven decision making
  • Interact with key stakeholders in identifying business needs and building relationships
  • Build, develop, and maintain highly collaborative working relationships across teams to understand analytics needs, available data, and growth opportunities for the business.
  • Serve as liaison between the Business and technical teams to achieve the goal of providing actionable insights into current business performance, and ad hoc investigations into future improvements or innovations. This may require data gathering and manipulation, synthesis and modeling, problem-solving, and communication of insights and recommendations.


  • Create and analyze reports from several databases for trends. Proactively makes recommendations to management to assist with strategic planning, improving performance, production, and member experience.
  • Collaborate with business and IT partners to identify opportunities to leverage data technologies and traditional data warehousing solutions in support of retail analytics
  • Create various reports related to retail channel market share performance and makes recommendations to management to gain market share.
  • Using various retail data systems ensures data integrity and quality reporting.
  • Understand results, provides actionable recommendations, and communicate them effectively to stakeholders with appropriate urgency.
  • Translate business requirements into specifications that will be used to implement the required reports and dashboards, created from potentially multiple data sources.
  • Serve as a key juncture between Merchant team to vertical product teams, ensuring collaboration and supporting vertical product success


  • Gather and verify retail channel-related data and generate reports to improve retail channel performance.
  • Maintain internal customer satisfaction throughout the data management process: this includes applying exceptional written and verbal skills, a keen ability to "problem-solve" and decipher user inquiries, and collaborating efficiently between internal teams.
  • Analysis of data and providing thoughtful commentary to help report users to understand the value of the reported results.
  • Facilitate modeling for auto replenishment-based ordering, ensuring retail stores maintain needed inventory of core never out-of-stock products.
  • Partner with retail teams as needed to ensure excellent customer service is made possible with consistent product availability and a competitive pricing strategy.
  • Assist in developing and improving the custom data visualization and analytics tools to help teams identify trends and best practices, and support in their monitoring of goals.


  • Plan and communicate detailed key performance targets through pre-season and in-season plans across multiple channels and categories of business.
  • Collaborate with accounting partners to establish best practices for reconciliations, inventory integrity, and vendor management.
  • Support the forecasting process and budgeting process, maintaining accurate data in partnership with the Merchant and Finance teams.
  • Lead the demand-planning process for product development and procurement and monitor accuracy and fulfillment.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated competencies in demand forecasting, inventory management, retail buying, trend analysis, vendor management, and merchandise planning
  • Demonstrated reporting and analytical skills, preferably within a retail environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent analytical ability: the ability to leverage analytical work into results-oriented storytelling and actionable insights.
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy of work and reporting
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Solid management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Approachable, mindful, and positive
  • Hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation for commuting among locations within the assigned region.
  • Hold a valid Marijuana Handlers Permit.
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal and company regulations required for working in the cannabis space.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Have an interest in the cannabis industry and be culturally aligned with Groundworks' mission.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit and kneel daily in retail and production environments that include concrete or other hard-surface floors and, in some instances, staircases.
  • Ability to push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Ability to maintain focus and memory in environments with distractions such as heavy foot traffic, background noise due to public conversations and the gathering of people, etc.
  • Absent conditions that would prevent the occasional use of PPE such as safety glasses, dust masks, etc.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work at a computer for several contiguous hours.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle for several hours continuously.
