General Manager - Cannabis Dispensary
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: General Manager – Cannabis Dispensary
Schedule: Monday – Friday, with possible evenings and/or weekends
Location: Ridgefield, WA
Classification: Exempt
Opening Date: June 10, 2022
Salary Range: $68,467.00 to $95,853.00 annual DOE
Closing Date: June 17, 2022, or until filled
Position Summary:
Accomplishes the objectives of the Cannabis Dispensary operations by overseeing and managing the daily operations; acts as a steward of operational excellence and ensures compliant practices in a highly-regulated industry; and ensures maximum sales, profitability and effective and efficient service to customers. Cultivates a strong team of professionals through training, mentoring and development. Honors and represents the mission, vision, values of the Cannabis Dispensary.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include the following, and other related duties as assigned.
- Identifies key business metrics and develops strategies to grow dispensary operations; ensures achievement of sales, profitability, and operational excellence goals; and communicates and advises executive leadership of dispensary operations.
- Creates a work environment that is cohesive and represents the mission, values and brand guidelines.
- Manages daily operations of dispensary including purchase and sale of inventory, maintaining strict opening and closing schedule, arrangement of stock, and addressing customer needs, visual merchandising, advertising and special promotions.
- Establishes work schedules for operations to ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet customer demand; implements policies procedures, programs, and systems in accordance with operational objectives.
- Oversees the timely and accurate processing of payroll.
- Responds to customer questions or concerns in a professional and timely manner, achieving positive resolutions.
- Leads team in developing product and business knowledge, including how each member impacts the financial stability of the business and contributes to organizational goals.
- Improves staff effectiveness by counseling, training and recommending disciplinary action for employees; preparing employee schedules; planning, delegating, monitoring, and appraising job tasks and results in a timely manner.
- Provides training and development to staff; facilitates product knowledge and education for team and customers; and ensures that staff has the tools to perform job duties.
- Hosts regular staff meetings to ensure communication between personnel and store-related activities.
- Promotes a culture of teamwork, provides clear direction, and establishes candid priorities.
- Attracts, hires, and retains a diverse team of top talent; creates a work environment that is inspiring and encourages growth; and fosters a climate of open communication and feedback.
- Performs application screening, interviewing, and selecting new team members; coordinates with HR to complete hiring and onboarding process.
- Orders store inventory and maintains positive vendor relationships; negotiates favorable terms to achieve business targets; and monitors and adjusts pricing levels to ensure maximum profitability.
- Oversees and coordinates scheduled store inventory and ensures all information is accurate and complete.
- Protects the financial assets of the company by reconciling receipts; makes store deposits according to established policies and procedures; updates financials and reports to accounting department.
- Prepares and administers annual budget, and monitors and tracks expenditures.
- Oversees and maintains vendor services and ensures adherence with contractual agreements.
- Ensures compliance with established health, security and safety regulations.
- Contributes to operational effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues and goals that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of actions; implementing directives.
- Ensures the cleanliness and sanitation of all dispensary areas, interior and exterior of building facility and equipment; coordinates repairs as needed.
- Fosters a customer-first environment that is welcoming to all.
- Maintains current knowledge for all dispensary products and stay abreast of developments in cannabis laws, industry trends and products; ensures compliant practices by team with all dispensary procedures; and ensures current compliance with all tribal rules and regulations and with all legal and statutory requirements.
- Keeps leadership and other departments informed of status of operational activities by attending meetings and submitting reports.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
- Recognizes and celebrates team and individual accomplishments, work anniversaries, etc.
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of traditional form of government and tribal customs and traditions.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
- Knowledge of cannabis products and strains, medicinal benefits, methods of consumption, and effects of products.
- Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
- Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports.
- Skill in increasing sales and profitability.
- Skill in supervising, training, developing and evaluating assigned staff.
- Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
- Ability to provide and role model excellent customer service; to lead people and teams; and to educate staff on how their actions affect the customer and the bottom line.
- Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
- Ability to maintain a positive demeanor even in difficult situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Business, Retail, or related field.
- Five years’ experience in retail operations.
- Three years supervisory experienced in a retail environment required.
- Experience in medical or adult use cannabis industries preferred.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background screening / investigation according to the established requirements below.
Tribal preference in accordance with Cowlitz Indian Tribe Code and CIT Employee Policies and Procedures Handbook shall apply to all positions. All positions are required to adhere to CIT’s established safety policies regarding vaccine requirements and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Background Investigation Requirements:
- Pre-employment drug screen (marijuana is excluded).
- Reference checks, education, and employment verification.
- State, and/or tribal criminal history checks.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has supervisory responsibilities.
