About the role:

As Nectar’s Accounting Manager, you will oversee three direct reports, and work collaboratively to ensure the complete and accurate accounting and reporting of the Company’s financial data for multiple entities. Additionally, the Accounting Manager will regularly interact with a broader group both in and out of the Accounting department, as well as interface with various financial stakeholders external to the Company. You will also be responsible for the following:

  • Ensure the integrity of the GAAP general ledger by overseeing the monthly financial close for multiple entities, including the Company’s clients.  This will include detailed journal entry review and analysis of financial results. This will also include acting in the preparer capacity for more difficult and complex accounts.
  • Build and maintain a routine monthly close and reporting system, designed to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information to all stakeholders.  
  • Supervise, train and mentor Accounting staff.  Perform detailed review of team members’ work products.  Assist or personally complete more complex accounting tasks. Create appropriate reconciliations for new accounts or processes as needed.
  • Work to build understanding of business operations for relevant entities in order to anticipate financial statement trends. Ability to elevate anticipated financial issues or ideas to management as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with both supervisory team and direct reports in order to maintain adherence to close calendar, both for monthly close as well as quarterly and annual close.
  • Work with other departments as necessary to ensure financial statements are complete and accurate; work to understand and test the completeness and accuracy of key sources of data.
  • Train and develop Accountants to become more knowledgeable about the relevant entities, and to generally develop their accounting and reporting skills. Determine ways to provide cross training opportunities for Accountants to further grow and diversify each Accountant’s skill sets. Collaborate with Accountants and Director of Accounting on goal setting and reviews for all direct reports.
  • Participate in the preparation of quarterly financial statements. These time periods involve extra workload and flexibility to meet deadlines is required.
  • Oversee preparation and/or independently prepare various schedules, including standalone entity financial statements, in support of any audit.
    Perform and document relevant internal controls as determined necessary.
  • Stay informed of current accounting issues, especially industry-specific accounting issues.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to exhibit ownership over key responsibilities, improve operations, and streamline work processes to create efficiencies.
  • Collaborate regularly with the supervisory team over the general body of work to be performed, both by Accountants and Accounting Manager.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned.

Compensation for this role will vary depending on the candidate’s level of experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. 
  • Five or more years of public accounting or GL accounting experience; CPA preferred but not required. 
  • Appetite for continuing education.
  • Supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Strong understanding of accounting concepts and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including an understanding of T-Accounts, and the ability to work through difficult accounting scenarios. 
  • Experience with various forms of financial reporting, including preparation and review of financial statements.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team to work collaboratively as a group as well as drive and maintain individual ownership amongst staff. 
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines, as well as ability to maintain flexibility to shift priorities and reprioritize (both for individual workload as well as supervised team). 
  • Strong time-management and organization skills; ability to move multiple work streams forward at once and actively prioritize projects. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Use of pivot tables, vlookups, and other intermediate-to-advanced Excel functions. 
  • Willingness to work additional hours when necessary. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and project a professional business image with both internal and external parties.
